What’s Your MISOGI for 2025?
Published 1 day ago • 2 min read
Hey there, Reader!
Let’s talk about the challenge that will change you forever.
What’s that one big, bold, scary goal you’ve been too nervous to commit to? The one that feels so massive you don’t even know where to start?
That’s your Misogi.
Misogi refers to a challenging and unique Japanese tradition that involves the practice of purification. It has expanded beyond traditional practice into the present-day Misogi, a life-changing challenge—a “big, hairy, audacious goal” (to borrow a phrase) that’s so bold, there’s no guarantee you’ll achieve it.
But here’s the thing: it’s not about the outcome. It’s about the person you become in the process.
Each year, I select a Misogi, and it’s a practice that has challenged and transformed me. My own Misogis have included things like hiking the vertical feet of Everest, running the Disney Dopey Challenge (yes, that’s 4 races in 4 days), three mountain marathons in three days, and kayaking the Nāpali Coast. Each one has pushed me to my limits and taught me that I’m capable of so much more than I thought.
But your Misogi doesn’t have to be a physical challenge. Maybe for you, it’s writing a book, starting a business, or finally launching that passion project you’ve been dreaming about.
A Misogi requires a commitment throughout the year to keep you on track. That’s the power of it—no matter what circumstances come up, you’re committed to staying the course. Your ability to adapt will astound you when you’re committed and engaged. You will experience transformation.
Pro tip: The best Misogis are chosen not based on what you think you can do but on who you want to become.
So, who do you want to be in 2025? Someone who’s more resilient, adventurous, or disciplined? Someone who’s creative, courageous, or laser-focused? Your Misogi should challenge you to step into that version of yourself.
A Few Non-Negotiables for Your Misogi:
It has to be hard. If you’re 100% sure you can do it, it’s not bold enough.
It has to require growth. The process of preparing for your Misogi is where the magic happens.
It has to go on the calendar. No excuses, no waiting for “someday.” Schedule it now, because if it’s not a priority, it won’t happen.
Ready to Choose Your Misogi?
Take a few minutes today to think about what scares you, excites you, and feels just out of reach. That’s your sign.
