She Almost Gave Up the One Thing Just for Her

Hey there, Reader!

This week on the podcast, I talked about something I’m seeing over and over again, not just in my coaching work, but in my friends, in my circles, and in myself a couple of years ago.

It’s this constant pressure to do everything for everyone.

I’m talking about accomplished, heart-led women who are showing up for everyone around them and letting go of the things they need the most for themselves.

One woman was training for a big adventure, something that lit her up. As life got busier, her first instinct was to cancel it. She had too much to do and felt like she couldn’t do everything. That adventure was the one thing just for her, the thing that would have filled her back up.

She didn’t end up cancelling, but it was a very close call.

I’ve been there too. A few years ago, I was working around the clock, saying yes to everyone else, and letting go of the things that lit me up. I slowly stopped journaling, working out, painting, and doing things that were fun. And then I found myself wondering why I felt so disconnected from myself.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

You can be generous with your time and still choose yourself.

You can care deeply about others and still protect what brings you back to life.

If any of that sounds familiar, here are three things to try this week:

  1. Protect one thing that’s just for you. A walk. A workout. A messy art session. LEGOs. Anything that gives you a moment for yourself.
  2. Ask “What will this cost me?” before you say yes. If it drains your peace, it might be too expensive.
  3. Get creative with solutions. Don’t do it all yourself. Trade tasks. Defer. Delegate. Ask for help. There are always more options than you think.

If you don’t even know what you need (or want) anymore, I want to offer something that can help.
